The Department of English has the same year of inception as Govt Degree College Doda i.e. 1989.
Since its establishment, the Department of English has been catering to the aesthetic and academic needs of the students from rural as well as urban backgrounds. In pursuit of providing academic and literary environment to the students, the Department organises debates, seminars, quiz competitions, guest lectures, poetry recitation etc.
The academic achievement of the department lies in the fact that it prepares students for higher studies and many of its alumni have attained excellence in both academic and bureaucratic fields.
The department offers following subjects to the students:

3. Communication English
4. English for Ability Enhancement Compulsory (Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course)
5. News Reading and Writing in English (Skill Enhancement Course)
6. English Translation Skills (SEC)
7. English Language Teaching (SEC)
8. Media and Communication (SEC)
At present the strength of students in different subjects of the department is more than 1500. There are two permanent and four contractual faculty members in the department.
